Savvy Style’s Eve Roth Lindsay tells Alice Chan why everyone needs a little colour in their life
What is colour analysis?
It’s a personal service that has been around since 1983. By studying how your skin tone, eye and hair colour work together we show you how to wear colours that put you at your personal best
Who comes to you for your advice?
Everyone: women, men, teenagers, and adults. The youngest I’ve had is a four-year-old boy, and the age goes right up to 80-year-old ladies. I’ve had lots of corporate consultations and feel-good sessions, working with banks like HSBC, real estate companies and news reporters. I’m in the process of making over reporters at a television news company. I’m in the process of making over reporters at a television news company. I also do a lot of workshops at associations and schools, getting students back to wearing their uniform and not wearing too much make-up.
A four-year-old getting an image consultation sounds a bit extreme. Hong Kong’s obsession with the way we present ourselves can be a bit over the top, don’t you think?
I don’t think it’s that strange. The mother just wanted to know which colours to buy for her son. We didn’t spend that long on the consultation, and it was fun for him too. Now, she can take the colour swatch wallet with her when she goes shopping, with the certainty about which colours would suit her son best.
Have you ever had anybody who couldn’t accept the colours you assigned them?
Let’s put it this way, I’ve never had anybody who I’ve not been able to talk into liking their own colours.
Can’t people get the same kind of advice on the Internet or from magazines?
They can, but having somebody shows you how to do something is always easier. And our services are tailored to each individual, which you can’t get from style magazines or websites.
What about make-up counters? Customers usually get shown how to use the products.
Funnily enough, I get a lot of clients coming to me because they’ve been to the counters. I always get clients to bring in their make-up bags so we can go through them together. I’m always shocked by how many things they have that aren’t suitable for their skin but were recommended by sales staff.
You’re also a Colour Me Beautiful consultant trainer. What does the training involve?
The programme consists of an intense colour and make-up course, as well as some business and marketing training. The objective is to develop self-motivated consultants who enjoy the flexibility of running their own business.
Eve’s most popular consultation, The Works! Costs $3,500 and consists of a full colour analysis, style consultation, make-up makeover with lesson, and includes a colour swatch wallet and personalized style workbook.
